yes! the final season was kind of mixed for me but her performance was such a highlight there, especially the episode where she finally realizes she's gotten it wrong.... but then can't actually bring herself to give up power.

Yeah last season was iffy especially last few episodes but I have to say her and Dukat were a highlight.

Winn was always, always about the power - the ep she was introduced in proved it to me. I watch the the other eps now and it still feels like she was about power first, faith second. And what little faith she had wasn't as strong as Kira's or even Sisko's. They both truly believed in the Prophets, which really got under her skin since Sisko wasn't even born Bajoran. It would have driven her crazy to know the Propehts told him that he was of Bajor.

I really can't imagine would have been like if anyone else but Louise Fletcher had played Kai Winn.

Right and also this deep insecurity/awareness of her limited skills that was almost sympathetic. Like, even as she's consolidating her power, she's still deeply jealous of people like Sisko and Bareil who are more natural leaders. She reminds me of Salieri in Amadeus.

I just read how as Nurse Ratchet, she based the character on the racist condescension she witnessed growing up in Alabama & I think you see that in Kai Winn, too.
